Australia’s must-see destinations

Everyone knows Australia is big and beautiful. This is because there are hundreds of must-sees across its 7,686,850 sq km (to be precise!) and it’s hard to pick the best. Visas4oz have put together just a few landmarks you simply cannot miss out on if you’re thinking of travelling down under…

1. SYDNEY: The Sydney Opera House

Plastered over postcards, memorabilia and countless other goods, the image of legendary Sydney Opera House is immediately linked to Australia and is one of Australia’s most recognisable landmarks. It has become a true symbol of Australia and its unique collection of arches makes The Sydney Opera House completely incomparable to anything else in the world. Since its opening in 1973, this iconic landmark quickly became the busiest public venue across the globe and is a pure must-see tourist hotspot. Even the chance to capture it on camera would make the visit completely worthwhile. The Sydney Harbor Bridge is another must-see in Oz; this spectacular steel arch bridge soars 134 meters above Australia’s treasured harbor below. Why not fully experience this popular landmark with the aid of an education Bridge Climb?

2. QUEENSLAND: Great Barrier Reef

Boasting an impressive 300km of stunning marine life, reefs and coral cays, The Great Barrier Reef is now regarded as one of the seven wonders of the underwater world. The Great Barrier Reef is situated along the coast of Queensland and is home to over 1500 species of tropical fish as well as 400 varieties of coral. Go down under (literally!) and explore the reef with a world-class underwater diving experience. Day tours and helicopter tours can be arranged to and from the Great Barrier Reef. After spending the day here, why not venture south and explore the wonderful city of Brisbane?

3. ADELAIDE: Kangaroo Island

Known for its tranquil and natural spread of land and chock-full of the most amazing wildlife, Kangaroo Island is a true tourist hotspot. Witness Australia’s wildlife like you’ve never seen it before; watch kangaroos hopping around their natural habitat and koalas nestling in the trees. The Island also features many unique rock formations and large caves which you can explore.

4. ULURU: Ayers Rock

Uluru (formally known as Ayers Rock) is a real natural wonder and is instantly recognisable due to its large formation and orangey hue. Soaring 348 metres high, Uluru is the world’s largest single piece of stone and most of its mass is still even hidden underground! Uluru is also spiritually important to the local Pitjantjatjara people who named the rock. Visit the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and go on a guided walking tour of the area before admiring the whole of Uluru at sunset.

Don’t forget to apply for your Australian Visa before you travel to Oz. If you’re looking to travel for holiday purposes, we suggest applying for an ETA Tourist Visa. If you’re looking to stay a little longer than three months then apply for a  long stay holiday visa. This will allow you to stay in Australia for up to 6 or 12 months depending on which long stay holiday visa you would like to apply for.
